At Kate’s Kitchen, we’re committed to being transparent about the ingredients we use and maintaining the highest standards across everything we do.
We’d like to update customers regarding the ham used in our lunch deliveries.
Following a recent supplier change, the ham we now use is certified by RSPCA Assured — a scheme widely recognised for its higher animal welfare standards.
RSPCA Assured ensures that pigs are reared in conditions that prioritise their wellbeing throughout their entire lives, from birth to slaughter. Farms and producers are independently assessed against hundreds of strict welfare standards, with regular inspections carried out by expert assessors.
This includes:
- More space for pigs to move, exercise, and socialise
- Comfortable bedding such as straw for resting and natural behaviours
- Access to outdoor environments or enriched indoor spaces
- The prohibition of sow crates, allowing mother pigs to move freely
- Enhanced training requirements for stockkeepers to ensure high standards of care
In contrast to standard industry minimums, these requirements are designed to significantly improve animal welfare and overall quality of life.
We believe this change represents a positive step forward. While we had previously aimed to source Red Tractor assured ham, we are confident that RSPCA Assured provides an even higher level of welfare assurance.
