At Kate’s Kitchen, we believe that great food starts with great ingredients—but it also starts with great people. That’s why we’re delighted to welcome Lush Greens as one of our newest local suppliers.

Based in Hengrove, Bristol, Lush Greens is much more than a market garden. As a not-for-profit social enterprise, they are helping to tackle food insecurity across our city while creating opportunities for local people to connect with nature, learn new skills, and improve their wellbeing.

Their approach aligns perfectly with our own values. By growing fruit and vegetables using no-dig and organic principles, Lush Greens is actively improving soil health, increasing biodiversity, capturing carbon, and supporting a healthier local food system. Their produce travels only a short distance from field to plate, helping to reduce food miles while delivering incredibly fresh, seasonal ingredients.

What makes Lush Greens truly special, however, is the impact they have beyond the food they grow. Working alongside a dedicated team of volunteers, they supply fresh produce to local food poverty charities and community organisations across Bristol, including foodbanks, community gardens, and youth support projects. Their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) scheme also operates on a pay-what-you-can-afford model, helping make healthy, local food accessible to more people.

Recently, some of the Kate’s Kitchen team had the opportunity to spend an afternoon volunteering at the farm alongside Jimmy, one of Lush Greens’ growers. We rolled up our sleeves and helped plant the next crop of peas while learning more about the incredible work taking place on the site.

It was a fantastic experience to see first-hand how much care, dedication, and community spirit goes into every harvest. Spending time on the farm gave us a deeper appreciation for the challenges and rewards of sustainable food production.

The visit reinforced something we already knew: choosing suppliers isn’t just about sourcing ingredients. It’s about building relationships with organisations that share our commitment to sustainability, social responsibility, and supporting our local community.

As a Bristol-based catering company, we’re proud to work with local producers who are creating meaningful change. By partnering with Lush Greens, we’re helping support a project that benefits people, the environment, and the wider community—all while bringing exceptional seasonal produce into our kitchens.

We’d like to thank Jimmy, Olly, and the whole Lush Greens team for welcoming us onto the farm and sharing their story. We look forward to continuing our partnership and celebrating many more harvests together.

If you’d like to support Lush Greens, consider joining their Community Supported Agriculture scheme, volunteering on one of their regular farm days, or attending one of their community events. Every contribution helps strengthen Bristol’s local food network and supports their mission to make fresh, nutritious food accessible to everyone.

Here’s to growing a more sustainable and connected future—together.
